Harnessing the Global Nigerian Resource Potential Database for Accelerated National Development entitled: Nigerian-Diaspora Database (NDD).
This is to bring to the attention of all Nigerians in Diaspora that as part of the New Democrats (ND) fiscal activities, we have made significant progress in terms of facilitating a program that is expected to initiate a process of re-uniting our nationals abroad with the motherland. A project, which has been on a drawing board of the Nigerian Government for sometime, is today receiving renewed attention within the ambience of ND with a much more friendlier and receptive national situation. This is in line with the climate of positive change initiatives, engendered by the current Nigerian administration. But most importantly by the genuine nature of the ND’s commitment to this noble crusade of return as unequivocally expressed in the first major address of the ND National Chairman Prof Isa Odidi in his inaugural statement to the people of Nigeria in Abuja entitled “the untapped potential”. In that address, Chairman Prof Isa Odidi made a clarion call to all Nigerians living abroad to be part of this historical event and become members of the first Nigerian political party (ND) formed by the Homecoming Nigerians in Diaspora and help relocate back home and/or materially reconnect with our motherland in its time of need. “We are committed to exorcising the spirit of vindictiveness, prejudice and mismanagement, which characterized the affairs of our nation in the last couple of decades and which drove many of our people into exile, alienating them from their homeland. This sad situation virtually reduced these noble sons and daughters of our great nation into mere net economic producers with some astronomical capital plight in access of millions of dollars”. He further said.
Consequent to this, the current administration has decided to be pivotal in the drive to mobilise the immense Nigerian human and material capacity in the Diaspora towards the development of the nation. With this concern and commitment to redress the unfortunate state of affairs by accelerating the process of the renewal of confidence and leadership and at the same time enhancing dialogue and exploring opportunities for productive relations between Nigerians living abroad and their homeland, ND is generating a database list of all professional Nigerians in Diaspora and cataloguing the list to be entitled: Nigerian-Diaspora Database (NDD). The essence of the NDD is partly to recruit Nigerian graduates or experts working in various fields back to Nigeria instead of employing foreigners, for consultancy purposes both short and long term, to provide fund (equipment, materials etc) for experts, professionals who want to go private and to form a consortium of Nigerian Business Men and women and assist them with resources for local and international business ventures. This also will form a reserve corps of creative “out-of the box” thinkers that would be used for national purposes short and long term on Committees for National Development Initiatives, which will make recommendations to the various ministries. The list is addressed most especially to the graduates, post-graduates and professionals in the Sciences, Engineering, Information Technology, Medicine and Pharmaceutics, Finance, Management and other Art & Science Technology based disciplines including full time Business Nigerians. The Register should contain the following information:
Name
Educational/Professional Qualifications (including dates)
Job/professional Experience
Area of Specialisation
Current and past employment
Company name/type of business (including duration of operation)
Students should provide expected time of completion
Emphasis on NDD will envision a transformation of our natural economy from its present state to one based on industrial methods, maximizing the creative and productive potentials of our citizens with tremendous capability living abroad especially in North America, Europe and Asia.
The first major step in harnessing the NDD is the organization of the Homecoming Summit of Nigerians living abroad in the near future in Abuja International Conference Centre. The summit being formulated will appropriately address the critical issue of harnessing the global resource potential for accelerated national development involving Nigerians in Diaspora. It will set other agendas and be a forum of open and free expression that injects economic reasoning and empirical analysis into ongoing debates and focus on exploring avenues for optimizing economic and investment opportunities in the country. It will be geared towards evolving an institutional framework that enhances the capacity of our migrant nationals to effectively participate and intervene in matters of our country as identifiable stakeholders at the same time as it encourages co-operation and actions that promote the well being of the motherland.
As the National Secretary to ND Dr. Baba J Adamu said: “we wish to express how profoundly grateful we are to our leaders for the non-partisan, statesmanlike attitude and commitment, which each of them has demonstrated during this formulation. They have shown themselves to be true Nigerians and patriots whose interest in our country and the Nigerian people transcends partisan concerns in this time of economic re-structuring. We believe the Nigerian Communities in Diaspora will welcome this formulation and embrace its pledge to see the promise of one-Nigeria fulfilled”. Now Please
